Pillow Talk by Wild Child |
This scent smells sweet and musky with dewy blackberry fruits (probably the lilac, pepper, mandarin combo). I like it but, I have come across a rather scathing (opposing to my own) opinion that it smells cheap*. Thankfully, it's not every day that I get to be called cheap so, I think my yelp as I sank into the car seat as the windows rolled down, whilst all the while I defied the statement - and thus, maintained some sort of defiant dignity - was indeed befitting of a woman wronged.
Perhaps because at first spritz, it's sweet, sugary and alcoholic. A boozy teenager who adds her family's medicinal white rum to fizz, as she crouches below a window that won't go wide enough, to dispel the rebellious single cigarette smoke, she had been pressured into taking from a friend. Amid a room of teddy bears and angsty soft rock pictures torn from magazines, she laments how no one can truly understand her and the connection she will eternally have with her current crush - the guy at the bus stop. Meanwhile, a couple blocks down next door, another girl is doing near enough the same thing ...
In short, what I'm trying to say is - we've all been there ... being on what we may think of as the risque side of life. Those occasions when your heart and body may fool you into feeling more alive - part excitement, part fear, part joy - the touch, feel and taste of newness carries as much torment as never leaving your comfort zone. Yet through it, you are given new experiences that assuredly add to the tapestry of your own life but, may or may not enrich it. This aptly brings me to the point of this scandalously named perfume - L'Affaire = The Affair.
In my opinion, it's a pretty scent. It doesn't have the greatest longevity (what affair does?) and after the first yell of fruity defiance disperses, it quickly cocoons itself back into the skin for safety - with either a tale to tell or it's tail between its legs. I actually think if anything it's a pretty soft, classy (!) although a little bit punky scent (once again the pepper). It artfully provides just enough spice/pepper with the musk to stay fruity, musky and floral without overstepping into the Oriental realm.

Apparently, its meant to be a dupe of Gucci Guilty. I don't know but to my nose, it smells good.
*That opinion came from one of my sisters. Her favourite scents are very heavy (often expensive) opulent fragrances. Her favourite scent is Dior Poison. So let's say I took this as a hit!
Has your perfume ever been called cheap before?!
How do you take negative reactions to your perfume?
Do you adjust your scent to your work/home/going out environment/who you are with
or
Do you just wear what you like and want to wear all the time?
